The finest cinema house in Redding’s Cascade Theatre inaugurated on Friday evening, August 9, 1935, in Northern California.
“A magnificent theater located conveniently in the heart of downtown Redding— modern in every particular — and built, always with the thought in mind of your happiness and comfort,” and making a solemn pledge:
We promise: Our programs will be the finest — clean and wholesome — chosen for the entertainment of the entire family — worthy of your good will and loyal support.
Entering the foyer one’s gaze is immediately caught and held by a vast expanse of a mirror, indirect lighting flooding it in a subtle manner; one’s foot sinks in the thick carpet of green with accents of rust, tan, and orange. The ceiling is indeed splendid; a Byzantine grandeur is gone modernistic; a score of blending colors worked into a beautiful whole.
Parking for Cascade Theatre events can be tricky due to the small area, and limited space to Park for vehicles. I know Myself Personally from experience, I have learned that arriving a few minutes early to the event, assures me Convenient Parking.
This is an actual Statement from their site online;
Please use either of the FREE PARKING lots nearby the theater. One is a two level lot located on the corner of Placer & California Streets, and the other located behind the theater on the corner of Sacramento and Pine Streets. PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY BANK PARKING LOTS or STREET PARKING.
I can’t think of a better way to get into the Christmas spirit this year, great Artist, Great Venue, its Beginning to look a lot like Christmas, Hope to see You There!
The Old Dominion Band sold out at the Redding Civic Auditorium thanks to the owners of Mesa Productions Angie and Rick Gurrola.
Their motto is to bring quality events to the north state at reasonable prices. Recently their motto came to pass when two well-known bands played at the Redding Civic Auditorium.
Redding Reviews & Best Of The North State was there to capture and experience this exciting event that was totally electrifying. It was very exciting seeing the Old Dominion Band and Jackson Michelson. As we interviewed people waiting to enter the Redding auditorium you knew without a doubt that there was a lot of built anticipation. “Old Dominion is one of my favorite bands” commented one woman that had brought several friends.
We had the opportunity to interview up and rising star Jackson Michelson who started the show out with a lively opener that the crowd loved. Jackson did a fantastic job getting the crowd warmed up before the Old Dominion Band came out onto the stage.
There was only one small hiccup during the entertainment, and that was at the end of the show when one woman kept getting onto the stage while the band wanted to take a picture of the crowd, she was finally told to get off the stage by the lead singer. All in all, this was a two thumbs up show and a big shout out goes out to Angie and crew for bringing this great entertainment to Redding.
Things to do in Redding CA on St Patty’s day was a smashing hit, to say the least. A variety of St Patrick’s events in Redding CA were many. Everywhere you went it was common to see many shades of green, green beer, green shirts, green hats and green clover stickers and yes green paint on parts of the human anatomy.
Trying to capture just the main festivities took a herculean task within allowed time restraints.
The Need to Rush made for quite a challenge because of the many events happening at the same time.
After slamming down a protein drink and grabbing my gear I headed downtown to capture some of the highlighted festivities, it all started getting intense after parking my car in the underground parking lot of the old downtown mall area. After parking my vehicle, to my dismay I had stepped out into a group of highly decorated green females that looked like they could have played a part in a Star Trek episode with Captain James T Kirk of the USS Enterprise, (that lucky devil)!
After capturing the bagpipers at Shameless, I bounced over to The Dip across the street where things were blowing up green with famous local DJ Bucky Dun Gun.
Bagpipers were scheduled to play at 12:00, 3:00 & 6:00 O’clock at Shameless O’Leery’s. Getting there about 5:45 with gear in hand and ready to shoot the last appearance and it finally happened at around 7:20, long wait indeed but have to say it was worth every minute. If you watch close enough you will see something funny and totally unexpected happen to one of the female bagpipers, look at the video below.
After capturing the bagpipers at Shameless O’Leery’s I came across individuals that were really into celebrating St Patty’s day here in the north state, you can see some of the pics within this post.
In many establishments across City of Redding and the greater Shasta County, it was an amazing experience to see people from all walks of life celebrating St Patty’s day here in NorCal.
Final wrap up, we received this breaking news about a baby boy being sentenced to house arrest for getting too rough with his stuffed leprechaun toy on St Patty’s Day in Redding CA….
St Patricks Day Redding CA 2016 Events & Specials
St Patrick’s day in Redding California is a big deal here in the north state. St Patty’s day has a rich history and culture that goes back hundreds of years ago. St. Patrick, or the “Apostle of Ireland,” actually started out in the pagan religion. While not much is known about his early life, as many of his life’s details lost to folklore, letters from St. Patrick reveal that he was captured in Wales, Scotland, or another close area outside of Ireland and taken to Ireland as a slave. Years later, he escaped and returned to his family, who were Romans living in Britain, going back to Ireland for mission work after finding a place as a cleric and then Bishop within the Christian faith. He was born around 460, and by the 600s, he is already known as the Patron Saint of Ireland.
There are many legends associated with St. Patrick. The symbol of the shamrock used for St. Patrick’s Day comes from the story of St. Patrick using the shamrock to illustrate the Holy Trinity. The three-leafed plant coincided with the Pagan religion’s sanctity of the number three and is the root of the green color theme.
Another popular belief is that St. Patrick banished the snakes from Ireland. The story says that while St. Patrick was fasting, snakes attacked him, so he chased all snakes into the ocean. However, there have never been snakes in Ireland during the post-glacial period. The absence of snakes and symbolism involved with snakes is believed to explain the story, although it could have been referring to a type of worm rather than snakes. One legend has St. Patrick sticking a walking stick into the ground while evangelizing, which turned into a tree, CLICK HERE for detailed information and reference.
St Patty’s day here in Redding CA and other north state communities enjoy this time of the year and celebrate it with fantastic food, drink, and festivities. Some of the local eateries and pubs will be celebrating with the traditional corn beef and cabbage. While some will be adding a twist like Woody’s Brewing Co offering a Dublin Cheese Steak dish and let’s don’t forget the traditional bagpipers that will be playing at Shameless O’Leery’s at 12:00, 3:00 and 6:00 o’clock Thursday the 17th.
Below I created a short video explaining the events going on and where to go to participate in traditional Irish event.
Sideline, an innovative Americana-Bluegrass Band touring the West Coast, will be performing a house concert at “The Studio” in Cottonwood, CA, January 11th at 7:00 PM. “The Studio” is located at 320 Main Street, Cottonwood, CA at the corner of main and Front Street. Tickets are available at www.thestudiocottonwood.com and at the door. Seating is limited so reserve your tickets today! Doors open at 6:00 PM
Sideline is a powerful group of seasoned pros which has been getting busier and busier since this “side project” became a main gig for its members. Sideline consists of Steve Dilling (banjo), Skip Cherryholmes (guitar), Jason Moore (bass), Brian Aldridge (mandolin), and Nathan Aldridge (fiddle).
As the name suggests, Sideline intended to be a sometime band, but the success of their debut album made Sideline a main line.
Sideline captures so much of what was great about bluegrass in the 1980s and early 1990s. In large measure, Sideline serves up what was contemporary bluegrass thirty years ago. It sounds traditional in 2015. Sideline’s driving bluegrass with killer harmonies and propulsive rhythm, well-chosen blend of new and old material, and especially the focus on being an equal ensemble takes the listener right back in time to when these guys were jamming in the campground.
These musicians all speak the same language. Steve, Brian, and Jason all come from the same area, went to the same festivals, picked in the same jam sessions, and heard the same bands. California-born guitarist Skip Cherryholmes spent 13 years with his family band before choosing to become a North Carolinian. Aldridge’s 16-year-old younger brother Nathan has since joined the band on fiddle. This band enjoys playing together and projects just that on stage and in recordings.
My name is Rodney Forseth, Owner of Rods Radiators Inc and also I am the assistant wrestling coach at Simpson University. We are hosting a benefit motorcycle race, the purpose of this fundraising race is to help with travel cost for our team. At Simpson University our students are encouraged to perform community service, with this in mind we have decided to use our fundraiser to also help local youth athletic programs.
This year we have given $10,500.00 worth of tickets for local youth athletic groups to sell, they will keep all of the money they receive for those tickets. We at Simpson wrestling club will run the races and receive money from the racers entry fee and also from the gate. This is the second annual race for Simpson wrestling club, but I had also ran benefit races for the Save Our Sports foundation (1995).

Something magical is happening in Redding on Saturday, May 23rd. Those who heed the siren’s song and make their way to the lawn at Caldwell Park’s Carter House Art Gallery between 12:30 pm-9:30 pm will find themselves whisked away on a high seas adventure full of myth and lore. Prepare to encounter majestic merfolk, pilfering pirates and victorious Vikings, but be warned, fair adventurer: Here be dragons! Sea dragons, that is.
This is the 5th Bi-Annual Redding Fire Festival, brought to you by Adrionah “Desert Flower” Hodges, Joshua “Jasmine Mullet” Hottel, and Vendors On the Go. This enchanting event is a local tradition that turns Caldwell Park into a mythic backdrop for a festival full of cirque performances, fire dancing, arts and crafts, food, workshops and more. Children’s activities are provided, and families are encouraged to come and join in on the fun.
Sea of Dragons
Each Redding Fire Festival has a unique theme, and the theme of their spring festival is “Sea of Dragons!” As the weather begins heating up in Redding, many of us are longing for ocean breezes. The festival is nautically-themed with sea dragons, mermaids, Vikings and pirates dominating the scene. Come aboard and refresh your senses!
During the daylight hours, the festival’s focus is centered around non-fire entertainment such as contortionists, musical acts, dancers, and a variety of vendor booths. There will be tasty eats provided by Subarama, Rico’s Tacos, Hawaiian Ice Cream Truck, Kahuna’s Mongolian BBQ and others. Grab a bite to eat and then stroll the open air market populated by unique and vibrant vendors. It’s a medieval bazaar with lots to see! Belly dance and fire dance workshops are also provided, each mythic and mysterious.
When darkness falls, fire reigns. The fire dancers light up the night with their flaming spins and swirls. These professionals use fire with skill and precision, wowing people of all ages with the dazzling display.
Why Fire Dancing?
There is something truly magical about watching a fire dancer at work, twirling and spinning flames in artful patterns and shapes. Fire dancing is a creative outlet for the brave. These artists are willing to get burned every once in a while in order to express what’s in their soul.
To be a fire dancer, one must demonstrate dedication and focus. If the mind drifts during the dance, the result is feeling the heat. In addition to laser focus, a fire dancer must practice long hours in order to build up the coordination and strength needed to go through an entire flow routine. Fire dancers exude a self-confident vibe and stay cool under pressure because they know what they’re capable of, and they’ve mastered the art of becoming one with the flow.
Everyone should have a creative outlet, and for some people, the adrenaline-pumping act of literally playing with fire is where it’s at. Mastering a primal element, dancing in flames and connecting with an audience are cornerstones of fire culture. Responsibility is also a recurring theme of a fire dancer’s life, with fire safety being a top priority in their day-to-day existence.
Fire Dancer Desert Flower
Adrionah Hodges, AKA Desert Flower, embodies the fire culture lifestyle. She travels extensively, bringing her special brand of fire dancing to venues all over the country. When she’s not performing, she calls Redding, California her home. After seeing the positive impact fire dancing can have on people, she decided to share some of the magic with her home community. Thus, the Redding Fire Festival was born.
The Redding Fire Festival has become a local tradition that showcases cirque and fire culture, giving the local community an opportunity to witness these amazing artforms firsthand. Some audience members go on to take up spinning themselves, having been bitten by the fire bug during the festival (although lessons and proper fire safety protocols are heavily encouraged). Adrionah and the various Redding Fire Festival instructors offer lessons to those who are interested, always with a strong focus on fire safety and artistry.
Adrionah is community-minded, with a strong desire to inspire her hometown with stunning displays of radical art. Her festival is a colorful, dazzling gift to our community, and an invite to play with fire every once in a while.
This is entertainment that you just won’t find anywhere else.

Woodys Brewing CO
Okay, so this has nothing to do with comparing a pancake smothered with peanut butter to one of the Best Of The North State microbreweries, Woodys Brewing Company. A quick overview of microbreweries first.
California Craft Beer Exploding
Microbrewery growth especially in California has boomed. Who would have thought that out of all the states California is the number one American crafts beer capital with Washington being second and Colorado being third?
As of 2014, there were 3,418 craft brewers in the U.S., an increase of nearly 20% over the year before. Craft beer production rose 42% last year, and for the first time ever, craft brews accounted for more than 10% of all beer sales in America. Woodys Brewing CO was in that 3,418.
Why Woodys Brewing Company Beats Peanut Butter On Pancakes?
Had a friend tell me about this place several months ago and was anxious to do a shout out about it especially since I’m a serious foodie guy that loves writing about the food, drink and entertainment industry. You could say I’m La Cafe News.
When a musician friend from Sacramento and I pulled up we were amazed at all the vehicles parked in front of the establishment. “This is good a good sign” I said out loud. When walking in we were greeted with the soothing sound of chatting people.
When seated we noticed how simple and streamline the menu was designed, the video explains this. Decided to order the Fish & Chips or should say Fish & Tater Tots. When taking the first bite of the lightly battered fish you knew this was no frozen fish, we’re talking extremely fresh. The crispy freshness was matched with a bite out of the tater tot; I have to say, this by far are the best tater tots I have ever had in my life. The tots are made from scratch and the outside of the golden brown crunchy skin is garnished with medium fresh garlic, kaboom baby!
Fresh Real Fresh
Scott one of the owners out of three and the hostess explained that everything is made from scratch and the chefs work together to achieve the ultimate foodie experience. Could go on about the whole foodie experience and ambiance at Woodys Brewing Co but drinking their sampler of micro brews was a real pleasure. How can you say one was better than the other when they were all good? I compared my dire straights like playing that Chucky Cheese game beating the gophers over the head as they randomly popped their head up through the holes and you tried to bang them with that bulky soft mallet, which one which one?
Redding Reviews and Best Of The North State will be doing another shout out on this amazing local business in the near future and their vision. Writing about their vision and goals is another editorial in itself but have to say the residents of Redding CA and NorCal are in for a big surprise.
Until next time, hold the peanut butter on those pancakes!
