Summer is here, School is out, and you’re
Trying to decide the Perfect Place to Take your Family to for a Day in the Sun with lots of Fun? Well, look no more! The main fundraising event for C.S.O.T.F.A
District 6
“California state old time fiddlers association.” Have planned a day of Fun, great bands, beautiful views, Food, local wines and craft beers. Something that the whole family can come and Enjoy together, Smiles, Laughter and Making Memories that Last!

This Festival event will be the Third Annual Bluegrass, Old Time & Americana Music & Art Event venue will be held at the Cedar Crest Vineyards in Manton CA. This is a day full of great bands, beautiful views, great food, local wines and craft beers; this family fun event is guaranteed to be about 10 degrees cooler than anything that is going on down in the valley. Come and enjoy the fun and help us support Old Time, Old Time Fiddling, Bluegrass and Traditional American Acoustic Music & Education in the North State.

*Band Line-up for the Day will be as follows*

*Wood & Wire: “It’s been five years now since Wood & Wire sprouted out of the fertile musical soil of Austin, Texas. In that time, they’ve written music, recorded albums, and performed at some of the most notable festivals and venues across the country.
In the often tightly defined genre of bluegrass music, Wood & Wire’s “band-style” ethos are not a mystery. Nor are the elements of song crafting, so often associated with their Texas home, that permeates their sound. That being said, what comes out of the Wood & Wire blender is something entirely its own.”

*One Button Suit:
One Button Suit is an exciting, Sacramento-based string band with a repertoire of originals and bluegrass familiars hinting at unconventionality.

Band members:
Tim Tobias – vocals, guitar
Tom Shewmake – mandolin, vocals
Melissa Lincoln – fiddle, vocals
Brian Burke – guitar, vocals
Casey Lipka – bass, vocals

*The Rock Ridge Bluegrass Band*
Rock Ridge is a bluegrass band from N. California. Their performances and recorded material include traditional & contemporary bluegrass, some originals, old time country, and gospel music with top notch vocals and instrumentation. The band’s debut CD, Drifter’s Prayer, has received praise and airplay across the US and abroad.

*The Buckhorn Mountain Stompers*
Foot stomping dance music from the Klamath Mountains.
The Buckhorn Mountain Stompers are an energetic dance band from the Klamath Mountains who pull from a variety of traditions, like alt-country, old-timey, polka, jazz, delta blues, – but maintain a unique sound of their own. Our goal is to perform fun dance songs that make people want to get up and strut their stuff. Our shows are hillbilly kitsch; with a disco light, fog machine, other theatric stage props and dance prizes.

*Honeybee jazz*
Sweet Violin and Guitar Jazz from the 1920’s & 30’s
Jazz music was born in America between world wars, an economic boom and a great depression, as an amalgamation of traditional American musical styles. The honeybee is a Northern California jazz duo that captures the sounds and feel of Vintage Jazz in its original vibe – with emphasis on lyrical melody, dynamic harmony, and smooth rhythm using sweet vocals, violin and guitar. Honeybee performs Vintage Jazz tunes in that authentic vintage style – the song is the star!

*The HappBees*
The “Sweethearts of the SMMAF” The HappBees will be back to steal your hearts away this year. These three little Dolls are sure to Pull at your Heartstrings as they play on their fiddles!

*Also Appearing:

*Honeybee Jazz

“Tammy Got Stuff?” Thrift Store

A personal story from the heart of Robert Fetty “Project Manager Best of the North State”. Robert meet Tammy Lynn and Marcelleus, owners of “Tammy Got Stuff?” Thrift Store over 2 years ago, meeting with them on how I could help their business. They were great to talk too and I knew from the beginning we were going to be more than business associates. I have always been a big fan of Thrift Stores and always wanted them to be successful.  I mean who doesn’t like finding a treasure. Tammy and Marcelleus are heard about all over Redding. Being in social media marketing you run into each other on Facebook, Yelp & Google. I soon found out that they are involved with Redding more than most mom and pop Thrift Store. They believe in helping our community.  I wish more people came forward and tell their story of how they help our community.  When Tammy told me they were moving down to San Bernardino, California, my first thought  was, who will fill their shoes in our town of Redding?

So many people came forward and said how Tammy and Marcelleus changed their life. I know working with “Tammys Got Stuff?” Thrift Store my life has changed. The love and compassion that those two had made my day. Not only did they help out many organizations but they helped out real people with real problems. So many times I would be visiting Tammy and Marcelleus and someone would come in trying to help another person out. They would not only help them but sometimes just give them what they needed to help that person. Does not matter if they homeless, senior, or even a sad person needing someone to talk to, they were there. Their final hurrah they donated everything to #Lungs4Lindsey to raise money for Linsey Arzate double lung transplant.  Tammy and Marcelleus you will truly be missed. Truly one of the Best of the North States favorite Thrift Store.#notforgotten

What is The History of Mongolian BBQ?
In the Thirteenth Century, the great warrior Genghis Khan and his soldiers from the grassed plateau of Mongolia conquered many countries from China to Hungary. They established one of the greatest empires the World had ever known. Legend has it that after a long day of hunting, Genghis
Khan and his Mongolian warriors would make camp and prepare lavish feasts. Using their swords, the warriors would prepare slivers of meats, combined with whatever vegetables and spices on hand. They would grill them on their upturned shields over a blazing fire. This type of cooking has become known the world over as Mongolian BBQ. With this tradition in mind, Kahunas Mongolian BBQ brings you the ULTIMATE MONGOLIAN BBQ!

Redding was missing a Mongolian BBQ at the time, and the Oller Family wanted to open one with an American Style. On April 06, 2014 Kahunas had their Grand Opening! Friendly Service, Relaxing Atmosphere and with a vast variety of homemade sauces and fresh vegetables, noodles, and rice.

World Famous Radio Zoo Show coming to Woody’s Brewery

CHRIS MIKE & THE ZOO SHOW

With humble beginnings, starting each morning before the sun rose into the sky – in a little, vermin infested, old, rickety building, tucked away on Main Street in Woodland, California – Chris Collins, along with his partner, Mike Reynolds, created entertainment and radio magic.  From this shoe-box of a studio, sitting atop a bank, next-door to the neighborhood watering hole, Collins and Reynolds molded a high-schooler, a local barfly, the over-night FM 102 jock, an auto part salesmen, and rounding out this motley crew – the only woman on the show – a voice talent from LA; into one of the most popular and dynamic morning radio shows to ever hit the Northern California air-waves.themorning-zoo

The public was totally caught unaware as, Chris Collins, the Ringmaster of this band of Zoo critters, pulled crank bits and played pranks on their unsuspecting public. Much beloved bits like: Toss Your Boss and Burn Your Buns, became the bread and butter that had their audience eating out of their hands and craving for more. And Collins and Reynolds delivered them more; by bringing in star guests, like Richard Simmons, or musical legends, such as the Jackson Five – into the homes and lives of their avid listeners.

The Morning Zoo reigned supreme from 1983 until 1992. A host of characters came and went from the studios that started in Woodland and ended up near the fabled – Howe About Arden area of Sacramento. The characters, bits, guests and artists were interchangeable, but the mainstays: Chris Collins and Mike Reynolds stayed and became house-hold names and etched their names into Sacramento Radio history; where they have remained legends to this day.

But their story hasn’t ended; in 2010, Chris Collins and Mike Reynolds, reached out to founding members of the Zoo – Robbie Lipelt and Gary Moore; and also Killer Bee, who joined the madness in 1987; to reunite the Zoo. Helping to bring the reunion together was, Mark McGee, the Program Director of several Chico based radio stations, who lent his support and the studios for the newly formed Chris Mike Zoo show.

Recording began in January of 2010 and has continued to this very day. Through the help of technology, determination, grit, character and insanity – the Chris Mike Zoo show is being heard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via the Internet or through our free cell phone Apps. The show is a worldwide based Entertainment entity. Our new numbers show a      steady increase of the variety of countries, ethnic groups and races that are becoming loyal Chris Mike Zoo fans. Comedy is universal and laughter is the commodity we deal in.

Sideline Americana Bluegrass Band

Sideline, an innovative Americana-Bluegrass Band touring the West Coast, will be performing a house concert at “The Studio” in Cottonwood, CA, January 11th at 7:00 PM. “The Studio” is located at 320 Main Street, Cottonwood, CA at the corner of main and Front Street. Tickets are available at www.thestudiocottonwood.com and at the door. Seating is limited so reserve your tickets today! Doors open at 6:00 PM

Sideline is a powerful group of seasoned pros which has been getting busier and busier since this “side project” became a main gig for its members. Sideline consists of Steve Dilling (banjo), Skip Cherryholmes (guitar), Jason Moore (bass), Brian Aldridge (mandolin), and Nathan Aldridge (fiddle).

As the name suggests, Sideline intended to be a sometime band, but the success of their debut album made Sideline a main line.

Sideline captures so much of what was great about bluegrass in the 1980s and early 1990s. In large measure, Sideline serves up what was contemporary bluegrass thirty years ago. It sounds traditional in 2015. Sideline’s driving bluegrass with killer harmonies and propulsive rhythm, well-chosen blend of new and old material, and especially the focus on being an equal ensemble takes the listener right back in time to when these guys were jamming in the campground.

These musicians all speak the same language. Steve, Brian, and Jason all come from the same area, went to the same festivals, picked in the same jam sessions, and heard the same bands. California-born guitarist Skip Cherryholmes spent 13 years with his family band before choosing to become a North Carolinian. Aldridge’s 16-year-old younger brother Nathan has since joined the band on fiddle. This band enjoys playing together and projects just that on stage and in recordings.

Redding Fire Festival

Redding Fire Festival
Redding Fire Festival

Something magical is happening in Redding on Saturday, May 23rd. Those who heed the siren’s song and make their way to the lawn at Caldwell Park’s Carter House Art Gallery between 12:30 pm-9:30 pm will find themselves whisked away on a high seas adventure full of myth and lore. Prepare to encounter majestic merfolk, pilfering pirates and victorious Vikings, but be warned, fair adventurer: Here be dragons! Sea dragons, that is.

This is the 5th Bi-Annual Redding Fire Festival, brought to you by Adrionah “Desert Flower” Hodges, Joshua “Jasmine Mullet” Hottel, and Vendors On the Go. This enchanting event is a local tradition that turns Caldwell Park into a mythic backdrop for a festival full of cirque performances, fire dancing, arts and crafts, food, workshops and more. Children’s activities are provided, and families are encouraged to come and join in on the fun.

Sea of Dragons

Each Redding Fire Festival has a unique theme, and the theme of their spring festival is “Sea of Dragons!” As the weather begins heating up in Redding, many of us are longing for ocean breezes. The festival is nautically-themed with sea dragons, mermaids, Vikings and pirates dominating the scene. Come aboard and refresh your senses!

During the daylight hours, the festival’s focus is centered around non-fire entertainment such as contortionists, musical acts, dancers, and a variety of vendor booths. There will be tasty eats provided by Subarama, Rico’s Tacos, Hawaiian Ice Cream Truck, Kahuna’s Mongolian BBQ and others. Grab a bite to eat and then stroll the open air market populated by unique and vibrant vendors. It’s a medieval bazaar with lots to see! Belly dance and fire dance workshops are also provided, each mythic and mysterious.

When darkness falls, fire reigns. The fire dancers light up the night with their flaming spins and swirls. These professionals use fire with skill and precision, wowing people of all ages with the dazzling display.

Why Fire Dancing?

There is something truly magical about watching a fire dancer at work, twirling and spinning flames in artful patterns and shapes. Fire dancing is a creative outlet for the brave. These artists are willing to get burned every once in a while in order to express what’s in their soul.

To be a fire dancer, one must demonstrate dedication and focus. If the mind drifts during the dance, the result is feeling the heat. In addition to laser focus, a fire dancer must practice long hours in order to build up the coordination and strength needed to go through an entire flow routine. Fire dancers exude a self-confident vibe and stay cool under pressure because they know what they’re capable of, and they’ve mastered the art of becoming one with the flow.

Everyone should have a creative outlet, and for some people, the adrenaline-pumping act of literally playing with fire is where it’s at. Mastering a primal element, dancing in flames and connecting with an audience are cornerstones of fire culture. Responsibility is also a recurring theme of a fire dancer’s life, with fire safety being a top priority in their day-to-day existence.

Fire Dancer Desert Flower

Adrionah Hodges, AKA Desert Flower, embodies the fire culture lifestyle. She travels extensively, bringing her special brand of fire dancing to venues all over the country. When she’s not performing, she calls Redding, California her home. After seeing the positive impact fire dancing can have on people, she decided to share some of the magic with her home community. Thus, the Redding Fire Festival was born.

The Redding Fire Festival has become a local tradition that showcases cirque and fire culture, giving the local community an opportunity to witness these amazing artforms firsthand. Some audience members go on to take up spinning themselves, having been bitten by the fire bug during the festival (although lessons and proper fire safety protocols are heavily encouraged). Adrionah and the various Redding Fire Festival instructors offer lessons to those who are interested, always with a strong focus on fire safety and artistry.

Adrionah is community-minded, with a strong desire to inspire her hometown with stunning displays of radical art. Her festival is a colorful, dazzling gift to our community, and an invite to play with fire every once in a while.

This is entertainment that you just won’t find anywhere else.
